On 12 December in the afternoon, both the Stability Support Agency (SSA) and the 444 Brigade deployed a number of troops to the surroundings of Tripoli University. Several entrances to the university were closed. The students were evacuated from the area by the University’s security forces in fear of military clashes between the SSA and the 444.
Late in the evening, the SSA denied that there was any military confrontation between its troops and the 444 Briagde. There was a ‘limited misunderstanding’ between elements of the two ‘security forces’, but the situation was settled quickly and effectively without any kind of escalation or use of force. The SSA said it had ensured that the security situation in Tripoli remains entirely stable and emphasized the ongoing cooperation between the official security forces. It said cooperation between the SSA and the 444 is characterized by mutual respect and joint coordination and their common goal is to serve the nation and maintain its security and stability. The SSA also urged the media to verify information before publication and warned against reports that could create chaos or enflame situa tions.
