On 2 May in the early hours, in Zawiyya, clashes between local militias spread rapidly across multiple districts, including densely populated neighborhoods in Harsha, Bin Youssef Road, and Sabriya. At least one civilian was killed as the violence escalated. Key traffic infrastructure needed to be closed, including the Refinery Bridge on the coastal highway, which disrupted transportation and hindered emergency access. Authorities and humanitarian organizations urged residents to shelter in place and called for safe corridors to protect civilians trapped in conflict zones. Zawiyya University suspended classes and exams because of the security situation.
