On 24 October, in Yefren (a town in the Nafousa mountains) a large civilian demonstration called on all armed formations from other towns to leave their city. They chased troops belonging to the Western Mountain Military District, which is commanded by the Zintani commander Osama Juwaili, out of the town. Allegedly the troops fired a few shots at the protesters before leaving Yefren, wounding some of them. Another person was run over by a military vehicle.
Allegedly, the Central Mountain Security Directorate had established a headquarters in Yefren under the protection of the Western Mountain Military Region and started to open police stations without any coordination with the municipality.
Yefren Municipal Council member Saeed Buqsiaa called on the Western Mountain Military Zone to withdraw all its forces before the situation worsens and appealed to the wise men in neighbouring areas to intervene and defuse the tension. Furthermore, he called on the Ministers of Interior and Defense and the PC as the Supreme Commander of the Libyan Army to intervene immediately and issue decisions to withdraw all these forces from the territory of Yefren.
