General Khalifa Haftar is pushing on with his seemingly interminable and incompetent fight against Islamist militants in the east. Fierce fighting broke out again this week as Islamist forces fighting under the umbrella of the Benghazi Revolutionaries Shura Council tried once again to take Benina Airport. Haftar also used helicopters this week to bomb ammunition stores belonging to Islamist militants in Benghazi. It was reported, too, that Special Forces elements from the south had moved up towards Benghazi to try to provide some additional assistance to Haftar. Despite his persistence, however, Haftar is still the weaker party in this fight and it is more than apparent that his chances of dislodging the Benghazi Revolutionaries Shura Council are as elusive as ever.
