In Benghazi, fighting continues in the Imarat al-Saneya area of Ganfuda in south west Benghazi, and in Sabri/Souq al-Hout in the centre of Benghazi, where Benghazi Revolutionary Shura Council (BRSC) and ISIS fighters are still resisting advances by Libya National Army (LNA) forces. The threat of mines and IEDs are still extremely high in Benghazi. On 24 October, a mine specialist and four LNA soldiers died while attempting to clear mines in Ganfuda. On 29 October, an explosion in Benghazi’s Kish square killed well-known anti-corruption activist Mohammed Bughaigis and three others, and injured at least 21 people. Initial reports suggested the explosion was caused by an IED although some sources claim it was an RPG rocket instead.

On 27 October, 10 bodies were discovered handcuffed and summarily executed in Benghazi. One of the victims was reportedly a suspected member of Ansar Al-Sharia, suggesting this may be another revenge killing. This is the second mass execution in the city within the last four months; 14 bodies were discovered in a rubbish dump in July. On 26 October, the BRSC issued a statement threatening retaliation against Misratan factions following the destruction of two BRSC vessels in Misrata’s steel plant port last week.
