On 8 April, US Special Envoy for Libya Richard Norland welcomed the security meeting held by the 5+5 Joint Military Commission (JMC) in Benghazi during a phone call with UN Special Envoy to Libya Abdoulaye Bathily, saying he thanked him for his efforts to promote national consensus towards elections in Libya. Norland added that the two ‘commended the military and security leaders who met together in Benghazi to reaffirm their commitment to Libya’s sovereignty and political stability through elections and the departure of foreign fighters, forces, and mercenaries’.
