On 16 July, the National Human Rights Institution in Libya (NHRIL) announced the death of 41-year-old Awad Shehat Al-Karimi Al-Obeidi under torture inside Qarnada Military Prison. It said that Al-Obeidi’s body was found near a hospital in Benghazi, where his family later received it. The NHRIL held those in charge of the prison fully legally responsible for the killing of Al-Ubaidi and demanded that the Military Prosecutor General open a comprehensive and serious investigation into the circumstances surrounding the victim’s arrest and death in detention because of torture. It also demanded that those accused of committing this crime be prosecuted and brought to justice, and that impunity for these crimes and grave human rights violations be ended.
