Although the LNA announced victory against the jihadi coalition in Ganfuda (an area in south-west Benghazi) on 25 January, clashes between Libyan National Army (forces) and jihadi fighters continue in the 12 Flats district of Ganfuda. The 12 Flats area is approximately 4km square. On 1 and 2 February, the LNA conducted airstrikes against jihadi positions in the area. Then on 3 February, ground infantry forces entered the area. A number of LNA brigades were pulled back from the Ganfuda front line and remobilized to Souq al-Hout and Sabri, the remaining jihadi strongholds in central Benghazi. On 4 February, Faraj al-Shwehdy, a senior commander from the Benghazi Revolutionary Shura Council (BRSC) coalition, was killed in clashes with the LNA forces. The same day, after more than a month’s silence, the BRSC issued a statement condemning those that claim they are defeated. They called for support and said the war against the LNA is a religious obligation.
