In the run up and aftermath of the 1 September – the anniversary of Muammar al-Qadhafi’s coup, celebrated by supporters of the Qadhafi regime (also known as ‘Greens’) – the Libyan National Army (LNA) cracked down on protestors in Sirte, with the Tariq Bin Ziyad Brigade reportedly arbitrarily arresting several people and raiding houses in the Abu Hadi area.
The National Human Rights Committee of Libya condemned Haftar’s arrests of those celebrating the September revolution in Sirte and protesting against Prime Minister Abdul Hameed Dabaiba’s normalisation with Israel, claiming since 15 August and 2 September, they have recorded the arrest of 27 people.
