On 11 August, the Spokesperson for the Libyan National Army (LNA) Ahmed al-Mismari announced that the LNA had arrested a suspected ISIS operative of Sudanese origin during a security operation near Qatrun in south-western Libya. The statement claimed that LNA forces conducted an ambush of suspected ISIS elements and while many fled towards the Chadian border, they arrested a Sudanese national. The statement added that during interrogation the Sudanese national had said he was working under the command of a Saudi prince operating in Libyan territory.
