On 2 July, the Special Deterrence Force (Rada) arrested two members of the Libyan General Intelligence Service in Tripoli who were allegedly involved in the failed assassination attempt on Abdul Majid Mleqta on 14 June. Mleqta is a former National Transitional Council (NTC) member and now head of the Public Private Partnerships (PPP) Libya organisation. He was attacked with a remotely detonated car bomb in the 3rd Ring Road area in Tripoli. Mleqta was injured in the attack.
The two arrested are from Zawiyya. Further suspects, who are believed to have fled abroad, are still being sought.
On 3 July, the Director of the Libyan General Intelligence Service Hussein Muhammad al-Aib emphasized that his service had nothing to do with the attack. He said it was possibly a personal dispute between Mleqta and the two assassins.
