Heavy fighting continued in Benghazi and Derna while ISIS exacted grim reprisals against the Farjani tribe and Salafis in Sirte.

There was no discernible Western response to jihadi threats in Libya this week.

There were no significant actions by other jihadi actors compared to ISIS this week.

The past week saw an armed rebellion against ISIS taking place in Sirte when ISIS killed the Imam of Sirte’s Cordoba Mosque. It was, however, brutally crushed over the course of 48 hours.

IS has now reportedly taken control of al-Wushka and Wadi Zamzam, located 65 and 105 miles to the West of Sirte respectively, while one of their Benghazi commanders, Imad Zway, was killed in Benghazi.

In Benghazi, fighting continues unabated between Khalifa Haftar’s forces and troops of the Benghazi Revolutionaries Shura Council (BRSC) and IS. Fighting continued in Derna mostly between Derna Mujahideen Shura Council (DMSC) forces and IS members.

During the past week, Haftar has also concentrated his efforts on retaining key support from local tribes and notables, meeting with elders and representatives of tribes from Benghazi, Benina, al-Abiar, Sulouq, al-Tukra and al-Rajma.

IS continues to grow and strengthen its position in Sirte and in the surrounding region, adopting an increasingly aggressive stance.
