On 2 May, Russia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sergei Lavrov, stated in an interview with the Italian broadcaster Mediaset that the Wagner Group Private Military Company (PMC) had ‘nothing to do’ with the Russian state and was operating in Libya on a ‘commercial basis’. He claimed that the House of Representatives (HoR) had invited Wagner to Libya. On 7 May, a group of HoR members issued a statement denying Lavrov’s claims about the HoR inviting Wagner to Libya, calling for the Attorney General to open an investigation into the matter.
