On 27 October, an armed group affiliated to the 444 Brigade launched a failed attempt to kidnap the Commander of the Tripoli Military Zone, Abdul Baset Marwan, from his house in Tripoli. The following day Marwan issued a statement addressed to the Chief of the Libyan Army and the Government of National Unity (GNU)’s Minister of Defence, GNU Prime Minister Abdul Hameed Dabaiba, accusing 444 Brigade Commander Mahmoud Hamza of ordering an armed group to kidnap him. In an interview with 218, Marwan reported that he was unaware of the reason for the intrusion and accused the 444 Brigade of receiving money illegally from the Ministry of Defence (MOD) despite existing outside the formal military establishment.
