On 17 February, Libyan National Army (LNA) commander Khalifa Haftar arrived in the Republic of Belarus on an official visit, accompanied by an official delegation which included his sons Saddam and Khaled Haftar. Haftar was welcomed at the airport by Lieutenant General Ivan Tertel, chairman of the State Security Committee, who said Haftar will focus on bilateral economic, social and humanitarian cooperation during the visit.
According to the LNA General Command, on 18 February Haftar met with Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko in Minsk. The two men reportedly explored ways to enhance bilateral cooperation in various fields, alongside discussing regional and international issues of mutual interest, which bolster the strategic interests of both sides. Haftar praised the progress made by Belarus in the technical, industrial and agricultural spheres, certainly becoming a role model in the path of development and modernity. On his part, the Belarusian President reportedly praised the role of Haftar consolidating security and stability in Libya, and the development efforts the country is witnessing.
