On 11 July, it was announced that Libyan National Army (LNA) Commander Khalifa Haftar has decided to establish a ‘Chief of Staff of the Security Units’, directly subordinate to the LNA General Command. He assigned his son Khalid Haftar to assume this position. The ‘Security Units’ will consist of Khalid’s own 106th Brigade and of the Khalid bin Walid Brigade, which is commanded by Major Yahya Saad Yahya al-Barassi.
