On 27 April, Greek Foreign Minister Giorgos Gerapetritis arrived in Tripoli leading a high-level Greek delegation to discuss cooperation, migration and delineating maritime boundaries.

Gerapetritis met with Government of National Unity (GNU) Foreign Minister Taher al-Baour, discussing shared challenges such as the issue of irregular migration, emphasizing the importance of adopting a comprehensive approach based on burden-sharing, strengthening security and technical cooperation, expanding training programs, and addressing the root causes of migration, in a manner that balances humanitarian considerations with security requirements.

The two parties reviewed the work of the joint Libyan–Greek technical committee on maritime border delimitation, affirming their commitment to continuing constructive dialogue in a positive spirit, based on the rules of international law, in a way that enhances stability and serves the mutual interests of both countries. They also discussed the role of Greek companies in supporting reconstruction efforts within Libya under the GNU’s ‘Return to Life’ plan.

PM Dabaiba also met with Gerapetritis at his office in Tripoli, discussing bilateral relations between Libya and Greece and ways to strengthen them in various fields. The meeting addressed several issues of mutual interest, including prospects for economic and trade cooperation, as well as recent developments on a number of regional issues. Both sides emphasized the importance of continued communication and coordination between the two countries.

Gerapetritis said after the meetings that, ‘We decided jointly to activate the Joint Committee, which will deal with critical issues, reassess agreements that have been signed and propose new agreements’. He added that technical committees will continue discussions on maritime delimitation and that the two countries will cooperate in international organizations ‘with a view to the future’ and mutually beneficial agreements.
