On 1 December, the Government of National Union (GNU) released four members of Hamas – Marwan al-Ashqar, Nasib Shabir, Muayyad Abed, and Baraa al-Ashqar – who had been held in detention since 2016 in the Rada-controlled prison at Mitiga airport and transferred them to Istanbul. Their release was mediated by Turkish President Recep Erdogan. They had reportedly been released a month earlier, but this was temporarily suspended until security arrangements could be made for their safe transfer out of the country.
