GNU establishes joint security operations room in the southern region

On 13 July, the Government of National Unity (GNU) Prime Minister Abdul Hameed Dabaiba, issued a decree to establish a joint security operations room to reinforce security in Libya’s southern region. The room will be headed by the Deputy Minister of the Interior, Brigadier Mahmoud Saeed, who will also oversee 11 security agencies and administrations in the South, including the security directorates and the Customs Authority. According to the GNU’s decree, the room is tasked with maintaining security in the southern region and border area, tracking terrorist and armed group activity, and monitoring illegal fuel trafficking and migration. The room is to act in coordination with local authorities and neighbouring states.
