On 5 March, the Government of National Unity (GNU) Ministry of Interior (MoI) enhanced its security operations in Mizdah (80 km south of Ghariyan) and its suburbs as part of an expanded security plan to confront border threats and combat illegal activities in the region. Joint security patrols conducted operations to improve security and enforce the rule of law. According to the MoI, Border Guard patrols are actively participating in combating organized crime and addressing smuggling and illegal migration activities. To this end, units of the Border Guard are patrolling on difficult desert terrain and on rugged paths that are used for illegal movements of all kinds. Furthermore, large scale sweeping operations are conducted to track and arrest smugglers and thwart any suspicious movements.
On 7 March, troops of the newly established joint operations room started to patrol from Mizdah towards al-Qaryah (130 km southeast of Mizdah) and al-Shuwayrif.
