On 14 October, Government of National Stability (GNS) Minister of Interior Essam Abu Zuriba stated that the security situation in Benghazi is ‘excellent’ stressing no ‘security breaches’ would be allowed in the city. GNS Minister of Communications Salem al-Darsi said that the cause of the loss of telephone and Internet connections to Benghazi was widespread sabotage of the fibre optic cable into the city. Communications were cut off from 6 – 10 October.
The following day, the wife of Barghati stated in a TV interview that he voluntarily surrendered in good health after troops from the Libyan National Army (LNA) General Command arrested women and children in his home. She added that her husband had returned to Benghazi in response to strong pressure from his relatives and the tribe’s sheikhs, but on condition that he be allowed to resume his military role.
