On 26 June, the Council of the European Union (EU) extended the mandate of the EU Border Assistance Mission (EUBAM) in Libya for an additional two years, until 30 June 2025. According to the EU statement, the Mission ‘will contribute in the next two years to enhance the capacity of the relevant Libyan authorities and agencies to manage Libya’s borders, to fight cross-border crime, including human trafficking and migrant smuggling, and to counter terrorism’. The support will come in the form of technical advice, capacity building activities, specialised training, and projects, as well as ‘strategic advice where requested by the Libyan authorities’.
