On 8 February, a European Union delegation completed a visit to Libya to discuss all aspects of migration, with special focus on: combating smuggling and trafficking; strengthening human rights-compliant border management, including in the South; increasing voluntary returns and protection; improving conditions in Ministry of the Interior centres; and advocating alternatives to detention for children, women and vulnerable people.
The visiting delegation met key interlocutors at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Interior and Defence, including the Libyan Coast Guard, the Border Guards, the Department for Combating Illegal Migration, the General Administration for Coastal Security. It discussed with the Ministry of Labour the government’s vision on workers regularisation. The delegation also met with partners including EUBAM Libya, IOM Libya and UNHCR Libya.
