On 21 October, Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry met with the head of the Libyan National Army (LNA), Khalifa Haftar, after attending the Libya Stabilisation Conference in Tripoli. Shoukry also met with several other senior leaders in Cyrenaica, including Deputy Prime Minister of the Government of National Unity (GNU), Hussein al-Qatrani, in Benghazi. According to a statement issued by the Egyptian Foreign Ministry, the visit was in part to follow up efforts to open an Egyptian Consulate in Benghazi.
