On 10 February, the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs released a statement in the wake of the HoR’s appointment of Fathi Bashaagha as PM designate saying that Egypt, ‘Trusts the ability of the new Libyan government to ensure security, unity and sovereignty of the country’ and ‘to create the suitable atmosphere for holding elections.’ The statement called upon, ‘All Libyan national forces and institutions to prioritise the higher interests of the country’ and ‘not to be driven by calls of resorting to violence or forces to corrupt the current political efforts.’
