On 1 December, the Government of National Unity (GNU) Prime Minister, Abdul Hameed Dabaiba, met with the UN Special Envoy to Libya, Abdoulaye Bathily, in Tunisia. Dabaiba reaffirmed the GNU’s preparedness to hold elections. He also called for more dialogue and UN-facilitated meetings between political actors throughout Libya on the prerequisite that they back an election process. On 4 December, Dabaiba tweeted his support of Bathily’s statement that called for Libyan actors to move forward with discussions to facilitate the legal/constitutional basis for holding elections. Dabaiba asserted that the GNU supports the will of 2.8 million Libyans who registered to vote to conclude the transitional period.
