On 2 January, at least 900 rebels from the Chadian ‘Union of Forces for Democracy and Development’ (Union des forces pour la démocratie et le développement; UFDD) returned to their home country from Libya on the basis of the Doha Peace Agreement (2022).

They were welcomed at Faya-Largeau, about 400 km south of the border, by UFDD commander General Mahamat Nouri Allatchi and his former deputy Mahamat Assileck Halata, currently Chadian Minister of Urban Planning. They moved on to the military training center at Moussoro, about 550 km south of Faya-Largeau, 230 km northeast of N’Djamena, where their integration into Chad’s security forces or their demobilization and assignment to the public administration will take place.
