Berndt discusses U.S.–Libya military cooperation with Khaled Haftar in Benghazi

On 9 June, US Chargé d’Affaires to Libya Jeremy Berndt along with Deputy Chief of Mission Inga Heemink visited Benghazi. In a meeting with Libya Development and Reconstruction Fund (LDRF) head Belqassem Haftar, they discussed strengthening cooperation with U.S. companies and the importance of full implementation of the unified budget agreement. Berndt emphasized continued U.S. support for the objectives of the unified budget agreement: bolstering Libya’s financial stability, protecting the value of the dinar and the purchasing power of the Libyan people, supporting vital technocratic institutions such as the Central Bank and National Oil Corporation, and ensuring distribution of development funding to all regions of Libya.

In his meeting with Libyan National Army (LNA) Chief of Staff Khaled Haftar, Berndt discussed ongoing U.S.–Libya military cooperation and U.S. support for Libyan efforts to unify military institutions.
