Clashes erupted in Tripoli’s western suburb of Janzour between members of the Special Operations Force, which belongs to the Interior Ministry, and a revolutionary brigade with Islamist leanings called the Knights of Janzour, which is now part of the Libya Revolutionaries Operations Room (LROR). The violence flared after the Special Operations Force stopped a car at the Gharian roundabout and accused its driver, a commander from the Knights of Janzour, of being in possession of a stolen gun. This incident sparked major gun battles that raged on the night of 4 July and again the following night. The situation has been complicated further by the fact that the Knights of Janzour are accusing the Special Operations Forces of being comprised of members of a Zintani militia.
General Khalifa Haftar continued his assault on Benghazi, launching almost daily bombing raids against militant targets. He also carried out another raid in Derna.
