Al-Far arrested over involvement in al-Bija assassination

The Attorney General’s Office issued arrest warrants over the murder of the commander of the Libyan Naval Academy, Abdurrahman Milad aka al-Bija, on 1 September.

On 3 September, the Attorney General’s Office announced that investigators were able to identify the car that was used by the perpetrators to reach and leave the scene of the murder of al-Bija and to find the weapon that was used by the assailants.

On 4 September, the Attorney General said it had ordered an interrogation of a suspect who voluntarily surrendered himself and ordered the arrest of three persons suspected to be involved in the crime.These individuals are understood to be linked to Muhammed al-Baroun aka al-Far, the commander of the 1st Support Force Zawiyya and deputy head of the Counter Security Threats Agency.

Shortly thereafter, the Attorney General issued an arrest warrant addressed to the MoI against al-Far himself on charges of involvement in the assassination of al-Bija. On 5 September, under heavy pressure from several sides, al-Far voluntarily submitted himself for questioning and was received by the Judicial Detention Affairs Unit. Subsequently the appointed judicial officer conducted the interrogation. On 6 September, the Attorney General extended the detention of al-Far for four days pending investigation.
