On 10 September, a Swiss woman and an Austrian woman (Eva G), who had been held hostage by jihadists in Niger, are reported to have been released. This was reportedly through interventions by Libyan National Army (LNA) Deputy Chief of Staff Saddam Haftar. So far, there has been no footage of them arriving in Benghazi, as occurred with the US and Russian hostages released via Libya in August.
On 11 September, Austria’s foreign ministry said, “There is encouraging news regarding the fate of Eva G,” before adding, “The complex and very dangerous release and handover process has, however, not yet been completed successfully.”
