On 10 August, Government of National Unity (GNU) PM Abdul Hameed Dabaiba held an expanded security meeting with all the major armed group leader and officials from in and around Tripoli. This included Minister of Interior Emad Al-Trabelsi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Defence Abdulsalam al-Zoubi; Chief of the General Staff Salah al-Din al-Namroush; Director of Military Intelligence and Commander of the 444 Brigade Mahmoud Hamza, Head of the Public Security Force Abdullah al-Trabelsi (aka al-Farawla, brother of the MoI), Head of the Joint Operations Force Omar Abu Ghadada; Commander of the 52nd Brigade (Zawiyya) Mahmoud Bin Rajab; a representative of the Special Deterrence Force (Rada) Mohamed Abboud, Commander of the 55th Battalion (Wershefana) Muammar al-Dhawi, Head of the National Support Force Agency Ahmed Sibsi, and National Security Advisor Ibrahim Dabaiba.
The GNU said meeting addressed the security situation and ways to enhance readiness and coordination among various military and security agencies and institutions. The aim was to strengthen their capacity to handle potential developments while maintaining security, stability, and the safety of citizens and vital facilities. Dabaiba emphasized the necessity of ‘dealing firmly with any violations or actions that threaten security or compromise vital facilities and infrastructure, and of taking the required measures in response, stressing the importance of heightened coordination and preparedness across the various agencies.’
Sources report that Zoubi (who is from Misrata) proposed launching an offensive against Zawiyya, but representatives from Zawiyya and Tripoli objected, including Mahmoud Hamza, citing concerns that any move on Zawiyya would be cover for a Misratan expansion westward.
As has become the norm for Dabaiba, at the time of writing on 11 August, the GNU had not issued a formal communication or statement directly responding to or condemning the drone attacks in Zawiyya.
