On 24 July, Libyan National Army (LNA) Deputy Commander Lieutenant General Saddam Haftar officially visited Ankara and met with Turkish Minister of Foreign Affairs Hakan Fidan. According to statements from both the Turkish Foreign Ministry and the LNA General Command, the talks focused on regional and international developments, with particular emphasis on the situation in Libya. Both sides discussed ways to strengthen bilateral relations and expand cooperation, underlining the importance of continued coordination and consultation to advance what was described as a strategic partnership.
Following the meeting, Saddam Haftar stated that discussions centred on supporting efforts to unify Libya’s institutions and strengthening stability in the country. He emphasized that achieving lasting stability requires sustained dialogue and coordination with all relevant partners. The aim should be consolidating national institutions and enabling Libya to contribute more effectively to regional security. Saddam also reiterated that Libya’s national interest would remain the guiding principle of his approach, stressing continued engagement with international partners to preserve the country’s unity, reinforce security, and create conditions for building a strong, sovereign, and unified state.
