On 5 July, Hussein al-Aib – in his capacity as Libyan Intelligence Service (LIS) chief – received Joseph Bugeja, head of the Maltese Intelligence Agency, in Tripoli. According to the LIS media office, they discussed issues of mutual interest, primarily combating terrorism, illegal immigration, and organized crime, as well as strengthening security cooperation and coordination, and exchanging information.
The LIS media office noted that department directors informed their foreign counterparts that the recent decisions issued by al-Menfi lack legal basis and legitimacy and violate the political agreement. It also claimed that the representatives of the participating countries affirmed their continued cooperation and partnership with the current leadership of the LIS and all its members. The office further stated that the representatives stressed the necessity of maintaining the unity of the Service and ensuring its continued operation throughout the country.
