On 30 June, Libyan National Army (LNA) Deputy Commander Saddam Haftar met with Italian National Security Advisor to the Prime Minister Ambassador Fabrizio Saggio, alongside US Senior Advisor for Arab and African Affairs Massad Boulos, to discuss how to support Libyan efforts to unify their government, economy, and military. According to Boulos, this was a useful follow-up to Saddam Haftar’s recent visit to Washington, in which Ambassador Saggio participated. He said ‘U.S.-Italian partnership has played a very important role in the ongoing progress toward Libya’s reunification, as AFRICOM partnered with the Italian military to host the Flintlock 2026 exercises on Libyan soil, with joint participation of forces from across Libya.’ Boulos added that he and Saggio also discussed continued U.S.-Italy cooperation to strengthen Libyan border security, a range of regional priorities, and our shared commitment to peace and stability.
