On 8 June, EU Ambassador Nicola Orlando met with the Chief of Staff of the Libyan Army, General Salaheddin al-Namroush, stressing the EU shares with Libya the objective of building strong, unified and professional armed forces capable of ensuring security for all citizens, safeguarding stability against internal and external threats, and effectively controlling land and maritime borders in full compliance with international standards and human rights. They discussed the significant potential for further engagement with Operation EUNAVFOR Med IRINI, particularly in the areas of training, capacity-building and the provision of critical capabilities in support of Libya’s maritime institutions.
