On 19 May, a meeting of the Quadripartite Cooperation Committee for Combating Irregular Migration was held in Rome. Participants representing PM Abdul Hameed Dabaiba included National Security Advisor Ibrahim Dabaiba and Minister of State Walid Al-Lafi, alongside counterparts representing Italy, Turkey and Qatar. Discussions focused on mechanisms to enhance joint coordination in combating irregular migration and supporting Libyan efforts to protect its borders and combat smuggling and human trafficking networks.
The Libyan side emphasized that the Government of National Unity views migration as a complex sovereign, security, and humanitarian issue requiring genuine international partnership. This partnership should be based on supporting the capabilities of the Libyan state, strengthening the Ministries of Defense and Interior, and supporting stabilization and development projects in areas affected by migration routes. The Libyan delegation emphasized that Libya is not a destination for irregular migration and cannot become a resettlement zone for migrants.
