According to the International Organization for Migration (IOM), as of 2 May, 5,630 migrants have been intercepted and returned to Libya since the beginning of the year. During the same period, the number of victims and missing persons in the Central Mediterranean reached 819. According to UNHCR, as of 1 April there were 110,908 registered refugees and asylum seekers in Libya.
Irini’s figures as of 1 April 2026 showed there had been 33 boardings and 3 diversions of vessels, 787 friendly approaches, 88 special reports to the UN Panel of Experts, and 2595 suspect flights.
