On 7 April, Ibrahim al‑Madani, a Zintani senior advisor to the Presidential Council, survived an apparent assassination attempt after his vehicle was sprayed with gunfire near the Zintan municipal headquarters. His car was riddled with bullets, but al Madani remained unharmed. Security forces have launched an investigation to identify the attackers.

Authorities in Zintan and Tripoli vowed to pursue those responsible and strengthen protections for public officials as the investigation continues, for the time being without any tangible results.

Observers noted that figures involved in reconciliation efforts often operate in a volatile political environment where tensions can escalate quickly. According to them, the attack underscores the fragility of Libya’s reconciliation process and the broader political transition, as violence continues to threaten attempts to stabilize the country.

On 8 April, a prominent Zintan University academic, Mohammed Khalifa al‑Qaw, claimed that the attempted assassination of Ibrahim al‑Madani was linked to his intention to issue a statement disclosing new details about the killing of Saif al‑Islam al-Qadhafi. He asserted that powerful actors inside and outside Libya are strongly invested in removing Saif al‑Islam from the political scene, and that anyone who intervenes, speaks about, or seeks to expose this matter faces threats and potential assassination.

Human right groups condemned the assassination attempt and linked it to al-Madani’s intended statement about the killing of Saif al-Islam. They urged judicial and security bodies to launch a full investigation, gather evidence, and pursue those responsible, while stressing the urgent need to strengthen protective measures for citizens and public figures amid rising violence.
