On 8 March, the National Institution for Human Rights in Libya (NIHRL) called on authorities to clarify the fate of an army officer, Col Abdulrahman al-Tuwati, who was reportedly arrested outside his home in the eastern city of Bayda by an unidentified group in February 2024. Tuwati later contacted his family and told them he had been transferred to the Military Intelligence Directorate in Benghazi, before communication with him was lost again. A source later informed the family that he was being held in Qarnada military prison in eastern Libya and that his health had deteriorated due to illness.
