Egyptian pressure around Sudan continues

On the sidelines of a regional military conference in Benghazi on 10 February, Libyan National Army (LNA) commander Khalifa Haftar, accompanied by his son and deputy Lieutenant General Saddam Haftar, met with the Chief of Staff of the Egyptian Armed Forces Ahmed Khalifa for bilateral talks. The talks focused on strengthening prospects for military cooperation. The Egyptian General praised the depth of military ties between the LNA and the Egyptian Armed Forces, emphasizing the historic bonds between the two countries and the strong alignment in their military outlooks, which serves their shared interests. The senior leaders also discussed the situation in Sudan. Ahmed Khalifa urged the LNA Commander to prevent any kind of support for the rebel Rapid Support Force (RSF) from Libyan territory.

On 15 February, the Director of the Egyptian General Intelligence Service (GIS), Major General Hassan Rashad, visited Benghazi for a meeting with LNA Commander Khalifa Haftar and his sons Saddam and Khaled. At the centre of the talks was the situation in Sudan.
