Kufra airport has been shut down for one month from 19 January, ostensibly to carry out comprehensive maintenance works on the runway. However, the airport is not believed to require maintenance works. Instead, it is likely that the airport has been shutdown due to pressure from Egypt and Saudi Arabia who are unhappy with the Haftar family allowing the UAE to use Kufra airport to ferry supplies and arms to the Rapid Support Force (RSF) in Sudan.
