On 16 December, the sixth meeting of the joint Libyan-Italian Security Task Force on Security Affairs was held, in the presence of a number of security leaders of the ministries of the interior in Libya and Italy. The meeting addressed the progress of joint security cooperation programs, particularly in the areas of combating illegal immigration, securing borders and coasts, training, and combating human trafficking gangs, in addition to reviewing aspects of technical and technological support provided to raise the efficiency of Libyan security components, especially in the field of securing coasts.
On 17 December, Government of National Unity (GNU) Minister of Interior Emad Trabelsi met with his Italian counterpart Matteo Piantedosi in Rome to discuss ways to enhance security cooperation between Libya and Italy. They discussed combating illegal immigration, limiting migrant flows, leveraging Italian expertise in security spheres, as well as strengthening efforts to combat organized and cross-border crime and exchange of information between the sides.
On 18 December, the Anti-Illegal Immigration Agency conducted a focused operation against irregular immigrants in Benghazi and several other eastern cities that resulted in the arrest of 195 migrants in Benghazi and of 34 migrants in Derna.
