Saleh discusses cooperation with Italian counterpart in Rome

On 18 November, the 14th edition of the SHADE MED Conference took place in Rome. SHADE MED is a key forum of the EUNAVFOR MED Operation IRINI and its international partners for security policy dialogue and cooperation in the Mediterranean region. According to reports, the conference served as ‘a unique platform for in-depth exchange, evaluation of current security threats, the development of practical solutions, and the promotion of shared perspectives on peace, security, and sustainable development.’

On 19 November, the Speaker of the House of Representatives (HoR), Aqeela Saleh, met in Rome with the Speaker of the Italian Parliament, Lorenzo Fontana, in the presence of the Libyan Ambassador to Italy, Mohannad Younis. The two parties reportedly discussed ways to develop parliamentary cooperation between the two countries and coordinate joint efforts on issues of mutual interest, including combating illegal immigration and the energy sector.

On 25 November, the fourth EU-Libya technical working group with Operation EUNAVFOR MED IRINI met in Rome to advance coordination on key priorities, from the implementation of the Operation’s UN mandate to strengthened information-sharing and operational cooperation.
