On 6 November, the Government of National Unity (GNU) confirmed the release of Hannibal Qadhafi by Lebanese authorities, lifting the travel ban and bail imposed on him. The government stated that the release was the result of Libyan diplomatic efforts to address the case within a legal and humanitarian framework. The GNU welcomed the sincere intentions expressed by the Lebanese leadership to reactivate diplomatic relations and develop cooperation in the political, economic, and security fields. The Libyan delegation reportedly handed the investigating judge a copy of the Libyan investigations into the Musa al-Sadr paving the way for the cancellation of bail and the release order.
Media reports indicate that although Hannibal is allowed to stay in Lebanon if he wants, he has requested residence in South Africa, with Egypt or Oman also possible options. He is due to be released next week.
