On 27 October, Libyan National Army (LNA) Chief of Staff Khaled Haftar met with several Misratan commanders in Sirte to discuss efforts to unify the Libyan military. According to the LNA, they agreed to form a joint force. Khaled Al-Mahjoub, the LNA’s Moral Guidance Officer explained that the meeting resulted in the formation of a ‘joint force’ dedicated to combating terrorism and illegal immigration. However, the Government of National Unity’s (GNU) Counterterrorism and Extremism Agency denied ‘circulating rumours about the participation of some of its members in the Sirte meeting’. The agency said such actions were ‘individual behavior’ unrelated to it.
