On 2 September, according to Italian media reports, Ibrahim Dabaiba (the nephew and close advisor of PM Abdul Hameed Dabaiba) and Saddam Haftar (the son of Khalifa Haftar and now Deputy Commander of the Libyan National Army) met in person on Rome along with Massad Boulos, US President Donald Trump’s Senior Africa Advisor.
The details of what was discussed in the meeting are unclear and the meeting was not publicized by either side – though neither has denied it either. Unsurprisingly, speculation about what was agreed (or not agreed) has been rife on Libyan social media.
