Tensions remained high in Tripoli throughout the last week, with continued mobilisations and localized clashes. However, there has not been a major escalation of fighting or an assault on Mitiga airport.

On 3 September, the (Misrata-led) Reserve Division of the Counterterrorism Force started to increase its security presence across several cities in northeastern Tripolitania, including in Zliten, Khoms, Tarhouna and Qarabulli. A number of checkpoints were established, especially at key points, and vehicle-born patrols were more present on the roads.

In the afternoon, a meeting of notables and militia leaders from Souq al-Jumaa and Zawiyya took place in order to coordinate positions and to prepare for the defense of Tripoli.

During the night from 3 to 4 September there were sporadic skirmishes between armed groups in the vicinity of the World Islamic Call Society in western Tripoli.

On 4 September, PM Abdul Hameed Dabaiba chaired a meeting at the Libyan Army Chief of Staff’s headquarters in Tripoli, bringing together several leaders of armed groups from Misrata. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the current military situation on the ground, options to increase the pressure on the Special Deterrence Force (Rada) and the sustainment of Misrata forces in the capital area.

On the morning of 6 September fighting erupted in Tajoura near the Heart Hospital, between the Rahbat al-Daraa Brigade (aka 51st Brigade) from Tajoura and the Misrata Joint Operations Force. Both sides used heavy weapons, causing panic among hospital staff and patients. One member of the Rahbat al-Daraa Brigade was killed and at least one other injured.

Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul Ghait expressed deep concern over the escalating tensions and military presence in and near Tripoli, warning that further conflict could jeopardize Libya’s security and unity. He urged all sides to avoid violence and pursue dialogue, emphasizing that force would only worsen divisions. Aboul Ghait also reaffirmed the Arab League’s commitment – alongside regional and international partners – to support meaningful negotiations aimed at stabilizing the country.
