On 17 and 18 July, France hosted talks between the Government of National Unity (GNU) Chief of Staff Muhammed al-Haddad, and the Libyan National Army (LNA) Chief of Staff Abdurrazeq al-Nadhouri, in the presence of the official members of the 5+5 Joint Military Commission. The French Ministry of European and Foreign Affairs said that the meetings focused on uniting military institutions and establishing stability in the country, while guaranteeing full respect for Libyan sovereignty.
The French ministry underlined that this meeting was part of the French ‘support for dialogue between Libyan security actors and the efforts of the Security Working Group [established at the Berlin Conference] co-chaired by the UN’. It also stressed that ‘France maintains its support for the UN and for the security dynamic in which all the Libyan actors are engaged, with the aim of forming joint units to secure Libya’s borders and combat terrorism and destabilizing foreign interference’.
The delegations were received by the French President Emmanuel Macron, who praised their role in the stabilization of Libya. Haddad and Nadhouri were honoured with the ‘Insigne de Chevalier de la Légion d’Honneur’.”
